Solar FAQ
Straight Answers to Your Solar Questions
Cost, backup, on-grid vs hybrid, batteries, net metering, maintenance, warranty, site visits — the questions clients actually ask, answered without sales spin.
Cost & Value
Cost, Savings & Payback
How much does a solar system cost?
It depends on system size, type (on-grid / hybrid / off-grid), battery capacity, roof condition, and component selection. We do not quote a price without these inputs — a price without a design is a guess. See how sizing works →
How long is the payback period?
Payback depends on your generation, tariff, and self-consumption. We calculate a realistic range with assumptions you can verify, rather than quoting a single dramatic number. See the ROI guide →
Will solar really reduce my bill?
Yes — every unit your system generates and you use is a unit you do not buy from the grid. How much you save depends on your system size and how much you self-consume.
System Types
On-grid, Hybrid & Backup
What is the difference between on-grid, hybrid, and off-grid?
On-grid: grid-connected, best ROI, but no power during outages. Hybrid: solar + battery + grid, backup during load-shedding. Off-grid: fully independent, battery-based, for no-grid sites. Compare them →
Will my solar work during load-shedding?
Only a hybrid or off-grid system provides backup. On-grid systems shut down during a grid failure for safety (anti-islanding). If backup matters to you, you need hybrid.
Can solar run my air conditioner?
Possible with proper sizing — AC needs larger inverter and (for backup) larger battery capacity. It must be calculated, not assumed. Include the AC in your load list and we will design for it honestly.
Battery & Net Metering
Storage & the Grid
How long do batteries last?
It depends on battery type (lithium vs tubular), depth of discharge, and temperature. We explain the realistic expected life of your selected battery before you buy — and size it correctly so it is not killed by deep cycling.
What is net metering?
A bi-directional meter counts both the energy you import and the surplus you export. You are billed on the net difference, so daytime surplus becomes a credit rather than being wasted. We handle the application and documentation.
Process & Support
Site Visit, Maintenance & Warranty
Why do you require a site visit?
Roof condition, shading, cable distance, and DB location all change the design and the price. A 30-minute survey prevents surprise costs and years of underperformance. Book one →
Do you provide maintenance after installation?
Yes — structured O&M and Annual Maintenance Contracts cover inspection, cleaning, performance checking, and fault diagnosis. See support plans →
What warranty do I get?
Panels, inverters, and batteries each carry manufacturer warranties with their own terms. We document them at handover and coordinate any claim for you. See warranty & handover →
How long does installation take?
Depending on system size and site complexity, installation is typically completed within 5 to 15 working days after design approval and procurement.
